Offside for girls
« on: June 05, 2006, 15:19:37 »
Just in time for the World Cup, here's the offside rule explained for girls:

You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the
shop assistant on the till is a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes which you have
just seen and HAVE to have.

The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing
them with desire.

Dilemma: Both of you have forgotten your purses.

It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you
had no money to pay for the shoes. The shop assistant remains at the
till waiting.Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of
the shop and sees your dilemma. She prepares to throw (pass) her
purse to you.

If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other
shopper and buy the shoes. At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead
of the other shopper and, *whilst it is in flight* you could nip around
the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes.

However until the purse had *actually been thrown* you are not
allowed to move infront of the other shopper - (otherwise you would be
'Offside')...

So.. how simple is that?

Oh, why didn't they say so - don't move til the balls moving.  Still not going to make me sit and watch any matches tho.

Will be useful for when I need to impress my boys with my new found, superior knowledge of the wonderful game. ;D ;D

thanks - buying shoes will never be the same again ;)

The same explanation works with the location being the local wine bar. Substitute (see? am up to speed with footie terms!) Jimmy Choo shoes with last glass of decent wine left in a specific bottle! Trouble is, it turns into rugby with an unladylike scrum..

Jimmy choo slips to Manolo, it`s close. Trendy baseball type tackles.-it`s a game of two halves-we wait ,and wait and wait-penalties?-my wallet wonders. :)

Rosebud, I'll bring the boys' Subbuteo with me next time I'm up your way to demonstrate.  It's really quite easy, although many a linesman and ref seem still appear to struggle.  Personally always preferred hockey!

don't worry, the amount of times the players get caught offside, neither do they.
