Squash question - pinch or not?
« on: June 15, 2006, 07:52:49 »
My squash are romping away in the greenhouse (upwards) and have reached the top of their supports. Should I pinch out the tops or rig up some more string and let them continue? Which part of the squash will produce more fruit - main or sideshoot?

Varieties are Thelma Saunders, butternut, buttercup, triamble, and Sibley.

Yes, pinch them out, yes sideshoots produce most fruit!

Hi
So should we all be pinching our squashes out?  If so then at what point?

It depends, the really huge pumpkins are kept down to very few leaves and fuit, if you don't pinch them they will wave around at the top of the supports and branch anyway... that's how they do it Au Naturelle.... reach a compromise more but smaller vs fewer but bigger!
 ;D
