Topic: Clematis Question

I put a good old Montana in last year. For some reason it hasn't shown any sign of life this year. I've had a scrape, and the wood is green inside.It's as though it's in shock or having a sulk. I'm loath to give up on it if it is still alive. All other clematis on the same fence are fine so I assume it's more likely to be the plant than the growing conditions.
Anyone got any advice please?  :)

Don't give up on it just yet. I have just found one growing and it disappeared two years ago!

Thanks Palustris, I somehow had the feeling I should leave it alone for now.
Normally Montana is such a vigorous type.
Maybe I'll just keep a check on it for a while before I give it the chop.

Its probably sulking, I bet it takes off next year. I've had some clematis re-appear after all this rain, that I thought were gone last year, so hopefully yours will settle down.

Hope so Val, am growing sweet peas up it just in case nothing happens. :)

I'm having a similar problem but with perrenial sweet peas, I know the soil has warmed up enough as the last straggling bits of bindweed have turned up!

I agree with Palustris and co. Leave it and it just may come up next year. I dug a clematis up 2 years ago and moved it and this year part of it has reappeared where it was dug up from! Great! didn't really want to move anyway it was just not doing very well. Maybe now that it has started up on its own it will be ok, I hope so. :D

Ha Saddad, I've now got b****y raspberry runners from next door popping up all over the place- I think they are on a par with the dreaded bindweed.

Did the bit you transferred come up Poppy2 ?

I prefer Rspberry runners to Bindweed any day, at least my Autumn Bliss as they fruit on this years canes, so it is just extra rasps!

Yes Magggie the plant that I moved did come up ok but the dreaded snails crawled all over it and it suffered last year. This year however the extra rain that we have had seems to have encouraged it to put a spurt on and its clambering all over the little shrub that I lay it against. I have stopped the shoots too and this is causing it to bud back from all the leaf axils! Great tip that- I have done it to most of my clematis plants and they seem much better for it. :D
