SWEET POTATOES
« on: July 28, 2003, 21:19:49 »
Anybody tried to grow sweet potatoes out there ? I have 15 plants in a cloche that are currently just a mass of vine-like leaves. When do I harvest them ? Do I wait for a flower ?  Any other advice ?

???

Many thanks.

Where about in the country are you ?

We were thinking of sweet potatoes, but didn't think we would have much luck in this country.

We are in Liverpool.

I'm in Central Lancs. so not far from you. The variety I have tried are Beauregarde and I got them from Marshalls. So far so good thanks to the cloche and the slugs have only eaten a tiny bit of the leaves !

There was considerable discussion about growing sweet potatoes on the kitchengarden.co.uk web site forum last year. If you do a search for "sweet potatoes" at http://www.kitchengarden.co.uk/forum/search.asp
you should bring up all the postings. ;D
