Neem Oil
« on: April 19, 2006, 23:28:32 »
I seem to remember a discussion a while ago about Neem Oil, but I can't remember what was said about it. I think it is an organic treatment for all sorts of 'nasties' and I wonder if somebody can tell me more about it and where to buy it in the UK.

Thanks

Rosemary

There are a multitude of sites accessible via Google, just enter 'Neen oil' and select sites from the UK.

I have not explored them in depth so cannot recommend any.

Thankyou Curry

I have already done a search but don't seem to get what I want. I don't have head lice so I don't want the cosmetic type of Neem oil, and I don't want it sent from USA. I also wanted to hear from someone with experience of it and the feed back.
I always get more satisfaction when I ask a question on this forum.

Oil is traditional for mites as it blocks the spiracles (breathing pores) and suffocates them.

Thanks Curry and Robert.

Robert is it only good for mites or does it help with anything else?

A spoonful of water in the wrong place will suffocate you, it's called drowning! Oil will kill anything small. There have been attempts to use oils to kill bee mites, but the problem is to kill the mites without killing the bees. From what I remember, it's worked into the fur of animals with mites, and you can imagine, the mites must get covered in it, which is the essential thing.
