Moso bamboo
« on: March 21, 2006, 10:23:16 »
I sowed Moso bamboo seeds in January and two out of five have germinated.
Has anybody grown bamboo from seed? Is there anything I can do to make sure they grow on well?
Thanks :)

its preety hardy. As you have now got it growing, make sure you keep it proteted from frost etc as it will kill it at young age. im guessing you have sown indoors. Harden it off around june time. and plant out. Each winter it does need a little protection, either some straw or some fleece. It will proabably die off as its a bulb, but it does regrow. the small plants around the base can be taken away and potted on for a while and put elsewhere in the garden as new plants.

Thanks, Adam :)
Yes, they have been indoors, germinated in a propagator.
Will do as your instruction. Hopefully I can post some pics of them when they a bit bigger. :)

I bought some 'Giant Bamboo' seeds from Chiltern Seeds a few weeks ago and plonked them in the propagator straight away. I have absolutely, completely and utterly no blinking shoots, nothing, nada, nowt!!!! It's been about 4 weeks so far....

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???
