Topic: Pink fir apples question ?

Is it just me or has others noticed how pink fir apples  (pfa) seem to work their way up nearer to top of soil as they grow ..Is this that they grow further up the haulms than normal spuds .. I noted last year that although I planted all my tatties same depth the pfa was still the shallowest when being dug up ..Reason I am posting this is as pfa's are in the soil quite a long time as in late season I have to  keep earthing  them up in order to avoid some green spuds and getting any frosted , As had happened the year before . Which made me take note as to the depth of planting etc...Has anyone else found the same?.cheers.. Jim

Fascinating ... I have never really noticed it, but yes you could be right. PFA do seem to be a tall plant, and I have never had to dig deep to get the tubers.

I had them caught by an early frost once; the PFA all got frosted and rotted, all my other spuds were fine.

Careful not to blame PFA for that, Robert?
And I don't have shares in them!!

If I try them again, I'll give them an extra thick mulch so there's still something left in early autumn.
