potato disaster Help
« on: March 13, 2006, 11:53:09 »
Came to put my seed potato's out for sprouting, (have been on 12hrs days/night) for the last few weeks) and they all have long 6-8" sprouts on them.

I resisted the urge to snap them off, will they be any good? they are now in trays in the greenhouse i am hoping this will slow them down a bit. has anyone had this before, should i get rid and start again ??? ??? ???

Go for it, plant them. They have two chances lol
If it's not on fire it's a software problem

Over on another thread someone mentioned hanging onto your spuds for a bit longer as plants don't like having their growth checked.  Can they wait a week or two until the winter is through?

Not being very helpful here I know, but there are so many boards/threads on this forum...! :-\

try and keep them cool, this will slow down the progress

Seems like everybody's shoots are too long or too short- since mine only arrived last week I'm tempted to go with the "don't bother chitting" school of thought!

I've been waiting for my spuds to arrive from Thompson and Morgan - no sign of them yet though... (called today and they said they'd get onto it today - so fingers crossed) I'm starting to panic about not having enough time to chit them and plant them out. Should I just follow other's advice to plant them without chitting?

Vaca, Mine will probably end up going out without chitting at this rate! Mine are comming from Tuckers, and when I called last week they said they wouldn't send any tatties out cos of the freezing temperatures!(I suppose they don't want their spuds to be sitting out in the cold somewhere.)
So I shall be trying unchitted this year!

My earlies are the last to chit, my main ones are ok and so are the 2nd earliers. I've now stuck them in a dark cupboard which is warm and see if that helps
