Great thread, this!

I just chose the name of one of my tortoises.  I could have been Maurice, Boris, Bruce, Nelson, Della, Edith, Sid Or Elsie! :)

This is the real Myrtle.

wow - what a beautiful tortoise!!....and are those colours true?

my nickname came about simply cos I wanted it to be veggie connected... so chose potato and thought a 'hot one' might be 'catcy'  ;)...therefore - hot potato!!....wish I'd thought of just 'hot pot' tho which I get called sometimes by some of you - I like that even better!

real name is Margaret but I prefer Maggie!!

I was called 'plain Jane' at school (by the teachers), there were four Jane's in my year so I guess they had to find some way of referring to us all. I love daisies and as it's also used as a name Daisy_Jane was born!

Simple really... my favourite plants are aquilegias. The word also contains all the letters in my real name apart from one. But I only just realised that!

I agree, great thread.
I have taken my nickname from the name of my dear dog I lost 18mths ago, she was a lurcher and very fast (hence nippie) I now have another lurcher called Sadie who is my avatar, so as not to show favoritism  :)

Mrs_KP (and the underscore was most important) has been with me for a few years now since me and the OH (the original KP) got together.  I couldn't register with the _ though, so it was condensed  :-[

The KP is Kinning Park, south side, Glasgow where the OH comes from..... and yes there really is a KPNuts (although he doesn't come on this board lol).

The_Snail. Why the_snail? Well basically I like snails. Its strainge but true.

Why do I like snails?
Well basically I like all animals. If it has a heart then it has a soul and should need protecting like yourself and myself.

Are you mad?
Eeeerrrrmmmmmm..............

The_Snail

Just going to add a little more to the reason why I like snails. They are interesting creatures. I like the way they carry there homes on there backs. Also it is very interesting to see how they behave. They do some good for the enviroment also in the manor of providing foor for toads and birds. Ok they are a pest when they eat your plants but you can protect your plants. I have to admit also that I use slug pallets  :o in the greenhouse because 1 slug or snail can cause a disaster on a seed tray full of seedlings. But other than that my garden and slugs and snails live together in harmony.

Mine? I'm female and live in the Cotswolds. That's me, whereas my full name feels more like a professional pen name so too work-related for off-duty and my nickname can be male or female.

My brother's initials, my sister's initials and my initials. Not something I could easily forget! My first name is Anne so you can probably work out that I'm the one in the middle. I actually am the youngest so it should go: RCGCAW  ;D ;D ;D But just try pronouncing that one!

Cool topic :D  Have sometimes wondered about some of the weirder names, but hadn't the gumption to ask!  :P

Mine probably falls slightly into the "weird" class.  It's been observed by some of my family and friends that I share many of the characteristics of Tolkien's hobbits, apart from smoking pipeweed and the slight inconvenience of being over 6ft. Hence the mutant bit.  Me, I think I'm more like Tom Bombadil actually, hoping to bump into Goldberry!  :-[  Ah well, I'm sure other people know me best! ::)

You can just tell I'm a LOTRs anorak can't you... ;D
Sheldon, Birmingham.  I've put the pin on Google Earth where my shed is, in the allotments.  It's in an area with a satellite photo which is cool!  You can't miss it, there's a bl**dy great big Airport next door!

Quite plain and boring really I grow alpine plants and also go mountaineering so Montanum (from the mountains) seemed quite logical.

Erm, well, my surname is 'Foster' lovingly shortened to 'fozzy' by my OH. Shortened my first name 'Louisa' to 'lozzy' and put the 2 together and got 'fozzylozzy' and there we have it...!

Louisa xx
