Wellington with some of his ladies

(1/2) > >>

Paulines7:
It was so lovely outside this morning so I took the camera to capture some of the chickens.  Here is Wellington with some of his ladies.

Jesse:
he is a handsome fella :)

Heldi:
What a lovely looking chap Pauline. Really nice colours. Is he friendly? What breed is he?  My cockerel Dennis is a Light Sussex but he has very light gingery bits around his neck and on his saddle so I sometimes wonder if he has some other influences in his make up besides Light Sussex?! Not that it matters. Is Wellington named after the duke of or after the boots?

Paulines7:
He is a very good natured guy, Heldi and was incubated by one of my hens but not from her eggs as I didn't have a cockerel at the time.  I kept all the chicks for 4 months but then had to chose one of the cockerels to keep.  I chose Wellington because he always called the hens over when he found some food and didn't just grab it for himself as some of the others did.  He has also never shown any aggression.

He is a Welsummer and I called him Wellington after the Duke.

Heldi:
Aw he sounds like a real gent. Dennis isn't,he legs it  if he finds a tastey morsel. He allows the girls to clean his beak afterwards  :D  He is great with us though and can be picked up and carried about. He'll take a nap on my son's lap sometimes.

Must be lovely to raise them from an egg.
