My Country Hope you Like It
« on: January 31, 2006, 17:42:08 »
Many of you are well acquainted with the Netherlands [Holland]
Weve have Dutch Members here on the Forum.....so I thought that you Might like to know a little more about my adopted Country I hope that some of you might find this of Interest:

THe Netherlands is divided into 12 Administrative Regions Called [PROVINCES] Each under a Govener who is called....COMMISSARIS VAN DE
KONING[IN] Commissioner of the King/Queen.

The Provinces are as Follows:
GRONINGEN: in the northeast: Capital: GRONINGEN
FRYSL: [ in Frisian Language] north better known as FRIESLAND: Capital
                                                               LEEUWARDEN
DRENTHE:northeast South of Groningen Capital: Assen
OVERIJSSEL: east South of Drenthe Capital ZWOLLE
FLEVOLAND: central in the [Ijsselmeer] Capital LELYSTAD
GELDERLAND:east central south of Overijssel Capital ARNHEM
UTRECHT central Capital UTRECHT
NORTH HOLLAND [NOORD HOLLAND ] northwest Capital HAARLEM
SOUTH HOLLAND [ZUID HOLLAND ] west central south of North Holland
                          Capital THE HAGUE [ s'-GRAVENHAGE ]
ZEELAND: southeast Capital MIDDENBURG
NORTH BRABANT [NOORD BRABANT ]south Capital 's-HERTOGENBOSCH
                                                                                   [ DEN BOSCH ]
LIMBURG: southeast Capital MAASTRICHT.

All PROVINCES are Divided into Municipalities [Gemeenten ] together there are 467.
The Country is also sub-divided into WATER DISTRICTS Governed by a WATERBOARD [Waterschap or Hoogheemraadschap ]
Each having Authority in Matters concerning Water Management.

As of 1 January 2004 there are 37......[ The creation of Water-Boards actually predates that of the NATION itself.......FIRST APPEARING IN 1196.

I hope you enjoyed this little insight to my Country: If you want to know Anything else I will do my best to Answer your Questions or Find the Answer to it for You....Any Questions Please  ask !!  Mike

Hi Lorna ;) Good Morning to you from a Cold and Snowy Netherland
Netherland[ LOW LANDS]

Many thanks for your Two Questions:

Firstly The Commissaris = Govenor=Commissioner  is Directly Responsible to Queen Beatrix but Only in Matters of State.....Normal the Commissaris is the Direct Go between the Burgermeester and the State.

A Good Example Every Year the Queen will visit a Different Town or Village  in a Different Province....These arrangements are all done by the Commissaris or Commissioner.

I left my Home Cardiff South Wales Nearly Sixteen years ago....to make a better future for my Youngest Daughter who at the Time was 10 years old
That we have achieved ...She is 26 nearly  as her own Flat/appartment...a good Job....A Car and a Motor-Bike...A Boyfriend who is a Motor Mechanic.

Would I come Back to the U.K....................!! not Really. I have my Citizenship and this is My Home...We have a Senior Persons Bungelow thats through the Gemeente [  Council ].........Hope that OK Lorna

Should you Like to know anything else please Ask......MIke

What I would love to see the Netherlands again. One day I'll get on that ferry!

I'd love to see some photos if you have any.  Really miss the houses and the cycle ways and the shops(flower shops were my fav) and the coffee shops (I don't smoke!!!)and the historical buildings, and the pubs...and the snow...and the mist lying in the fields...

Hi Mike,
Yes please if you have any pictures. The last time I visited Holland it was 10 years ago. Mike do  you own any sneerboer tools, if you haven't you must check it out. The best  tool in the world in my opinion. I have qute a collection of them. They are very expensive but worth every penny. I believe these tools are much cheaper in Holland.

Mike, I have never been to the Netherlands though I have met plenty of Dutch people whilst caravanning in France and they are always very sociable.  The reason I have not visited is that I am under the impression that the Netherlands are very flat.  Is this so everywhere or are there hilly areas too and if so, how high are the tallest hills please?

Paulines7 ;)
Hi Nice to speak to you.....To answer your Question the  Netherlands
are relatively Flat....a Few Hills ...Unfortunately nothing like you have in the French Alps or Swiss Alps or in Austria.

A Nice Area to Tour with your Caravan if ever you decided to visit this Fabulous Country is Limburg..... also very Close to the Belguim Ardenne
which is Much Steeper than anything in Holland....also your Very Close then To Luxembourg...also very Beautiful with some Beautiful Scenery and Climbs

Hope thats a Help.....In General Please bear in Mind that Holland is Flat

You are absolutely correct the Dutch people the Majority are very very Friendly and Sociable......Come over and see!!

                                          Mike

Will they sell single tools? The site looks as though it's designed with larger quantities in mind. Harrod Horticultural do them, but if they do sell singles, it might be worth comparing the prices.

Hi Mike.  Got back from Holland, North, on Saturday.  It was SO cold there but everyone was very friendly and sociable, as you say.  Thoroughly enjoyed my little trip even though it was to sing at a funeral.

Mike, Knowing only a little about the Netherlands, that was very interesting.  I have only ever passed through Holland on the way to Germany.  We went via  the Hook of Holland by ferry and then by train to Germany.  I liked what I saw of it though, and would love to visit one day.
Could you speak the language when you  first went over or did you have to learn it from scratch?  :) busy_lizzie
