topsoil
« on: January 10, 2006, 16:15:53 »
I'm going to do one more new raised bed in my lottie this season, and because I have been running into problems with the stony soil, I thought I'd try and fill it with topsoil. Will give me at least one year with decent root crops!!!

What I don't want is to end up with something nasty.  I noticed some suppliers say 'from fields previously used in the food industry' so for all I know I could be importing white rot or club root...

Anyone any experience with either bulk delivery (Rolawn?) or the small sterilised but expensive 25kg bags? Or have any ideas on the reliability?

I need about a cubic metre.  No idea how many 25kg bags goes into this much, given the density of the stuff being so high...

I would hazard a guess that you are talking about 40+ bags or so for a cubic metre. I cannot comment on the quality of supplied topsoil, as I have never acquired any.
