Rubbish frogs
« on: October 07, 2005, 20:20:25 »
Am concerned....I've had a "water collecting device" for some time (now a pond) and it's had ickle tadpole type frog things in for ages, but they don't seem to have got any more frog like - no legs, no arms , no froggy tendancies....I used a non invasive (hmmm) weedkiller which may have got into the pond, do you think it might have stunted their growth?

Bearing in mind I'll never forgive myself if I've created a race of stunted tadpole things......
Peas xx

I've still got taddies in my pond. They have been known to hibernate over winter if they are late developers.

the frogs strangle fish to death if you`re not careful in the early spring, they get a boost of testosterone and simply love them to death.!

My poor ghost koi was loved to death......not by me I hasten to add, thought, how sweet, the frog's having a ride on the fish....2 days later it was still there! I couldn't get it off, it's front legs/claws had gone right into the fish's side, felt awful and the poor thing died... :(  I have a couple of tench now, they seem really nippy and too quick for a loved up frog to catch.....

I've got some late developing tadpoles overwintering too.

If its any help you can also pick up lots of info about this and all things cold blooded at:

Indian build small fire, keep warm.
White man build big fire - keep warm chopping wood!
