A clout...mmm.... strange word that one, I don't think I've ever worn a clout? Or have I and never knew? ???
You'd need teeny weeny pegs wouldn't you....and wouldn't they go crispy? The worms, not the pegs... ::) Ooo then you could put them in the tequilla!! Ah see, I knew I'd get there......

It basically means don't do anything in the garden until May has gone as the weather is so unpredictable until then. I think clout probably refers to clout nails as in making sheds etc. It's an old Lancashire saying.
My cousin used to peg worms when he was very small but I wouldn't advise it! ;D

One of my favourite 20th century 'folklore' sayings, sadly American in origin:
- If it ain't broke, then don't fix it ...

My eldest daughter once pulled a worm til it snapped in half :o

One years weed, seven years seed. I think that is correct. It could be the other way around.
Why would you put a slug in ya sock ??? ??? ???

Teachers drinking in the pub, passing round the ready rub.
There that one might not be about gardening but at least it is decent - sorry everybody. Too much to drink last night.

It's alright it's not New Year yet so I can keep doing dodgy posts when I get home from the pub.
