Following Adam's trend I am going to see Piefinger at Lincoln's Drill Hall tonight.  However, I am not expecting them to rock as they are an accoustic outfit - billed as the future of accoustic music.

Derek, the gig was superb.  If you get the chance go - a fantastic varied night of superb quality original accoustic music.  Went to see REM in a stadium and Piefinger in a small intimate venue with about 75 other people.  A year of two extremes and two fantastically different gigs.

Thanks for letting me know Redclanger, from what I gleaned from the website, they are definitely my sort of band, and I really appreciate female vocals, they seem so effective to me.

I will keep my eyes open for local gigs.

Glad you had a good night at the Drill Hall. The last time I was there was for a beer festival. The OH dropped me off "I'll pick you up in an hour". I had to run between the pumps and keep my head tilted back in case I spilled any beer.
I'd not heard of Piefinger and I have to admit that I think their name is a bit naff but then I said the same thing about the Smiths. However, it's good that you are able to discover new music as I find it difficult in my advancing years to appreciate anything 'new'.
I'm sure I listen to all the right radio stations (Mark Radcliffe R2) but the only performers I've really taken to in recent times are Kate Rusby and the White Stripes (eclectic is my middle name!).
I suppose that if I got off my backside and watched some local talent I might discover more, though I have to say that Lincoln is a bit of a backwater for live music compared to my native Oldham/North Manchester.

Gosh Kate Rusby, there is a name that had slipped my memory. I remember seeing her at Bridgenorth Folk Festival a few years back, and being impressed, then seeing her again at a regular haunt where I played every week in Warwick. It takes me back to when local music actually existed ... I enjoyed carrying my guitar around then. Any pub, always welcome.

Well it still exists here Derek. We have a local "jam" here on a fortnightly or weekly basis. House band play a few & then it's whoever is there for the rest. There have been some really brilliant evenings & even the OK ones are enjoyable because it's live. There are people who have played with the likes of Eric Clapton in the past & a young lad who is on the up & now has a recording contract. There are quite a number of other jams going on in the near vicinity. I love it.

That was always the appeal to me, the very immediacy of the music. Sometimes someone would start off in a pub, and others would join in ...

I can recall playing some classical pieces in my local on a winters night, and the regulars telling the 'lads' at the bar to shush up so they could listen to me. The lads were surprised, but not offended, and voiced their appreciation of an excellent local when they left.
