Who's had their plot the longest
« on: November 21, 2005, 13:04:28 »
I had a plot previously for just a year, then moved to a larger new site nearer home.  We took this over in January 2005, so in a sense I've had a plot for 2 years.  I have been told that some people on a plot near me have had their's for 15 and 30 years.  :o  :o

So, I'm curious as to who has had their plot the longest.

I read on Sky News last week about a 93-year-old man in Lincolnshire who has finally been given rent-free use of his allotment for life - after 53 years on the same plot! It was a text page so I didn't see the interview and they didn't give his name, although there was a lovely old chap (called George I think?) on the "Allotments" DVD from ITV West (filmed in 2003 or 2004) who celebrated his 90th birthday and his 50th year on the allotment with a party at the allotment.

So there's hope for all of us..... just another 50 years to go....

absolute nothing for me - don't have a lottie.

But my grandad must've had his for about 40-50 years. They moved into the house in the 1930s and I'm sure he had the lottie during the war. He died late 1980s.
gone to pot :D

Cheating a bit, but:

We started with the bit at the top. House & garden. Then, in 1960, took on the 2 lotties at the bottom. In 1975, we negotiated a 145'x45' plot (in the middle) behind our barn, & pulled back into our shell. Now I can do it in my nightie!!

I am picturing you Tim looking like Wee Willie Winky in your nightgown. Blimey no wonder you don't want those lights!

I've had my plot since the end of last April. Seven months and I have got a single broad bean growing ...hurrah!

Happy Birthday EJ.  How far apart are your allotments?  When will we see the new you?!

Fanks peeps....tis officially my birthday in 5ish hours as I was born around 4am on the 22nd November 1970.

I shall get my darling to take snap of my new locks Heldi - I like it, but daughter number one had trouble spotting me after school!  She says she preferred the 'yellow' hair!!!! :o

Lotty veteran, marvelous!  Makes me feel like an OAP!  ;D  I'll just go get my zimmer frame and hearing trumpet before tootling off down the plot tomorrow to pull some carrots, if my aching aging limbs will allow me!  ;D ;) ;D
