The wire can be a bit sharp but as long as you're careful you should get wounds which are too serious  ;D

You can blunt wire off fairly easily with sandpaper or a Dremel. What's it made of?

I think it's just known as hobby wire.  It's only when you cut it with snips that it leaves a sharp edge and as you manipulate it with your fingers it can be a bit sharp.  I have some good little tools, and one which has been modified to help with jewellery making
