Below is from an E-bay lisintg

"This is the brass data plate from the Hurricane of 1 Squadron RAF shot down at Manor Farm, Chidham, on 16 August 1940. P/O Tim Elkington baled out. The aircraft burnt fiercely, as evidenced by this rather "singed" brass plate. However, the brass is still shiny and the date 1940 is clearly marked - making this a nice relic of an aeroplane from which very little survived intact

Tim Are you bidding for this ? You must , you owe it to your family. I hope folks on here realise Tim how famous you are. There can't be many folks on here who baled out of a smoking air plane in 1940 with the Luftwaffe up their rear end ;D

If the seller had any sense of justice then he might feel the right thing to do would be to pass the plate on to Tim in gratitude if he was made aware that is - or am I being naieve?

Dear thoughts - but we're well provided for by the archaeological diggers - various bits from 2 digs. I know the seller well.

The control column went to the Tangmere Aviation Museum - a great enterprise - a must - but was nicked a few years ago.

This - an exhaust valve - was done up & sent to us like this.

Famous? Should you be famous if you were run over by a sports car???

Blimey Tim! Knew you'd flown spitfires in the war, that was courageous in itself. Didn't realize you had to bail out. OH's jaw still on floor, must go raise it!! Am humbled.

Well, Clanger - one of our squadron in Russia, in 1941, joined up with a flight of Me109s. Not for long!!

Lincolnshire? Trained at Cranwell, of course!

Hope he enjoys it!!

If we're looking for people to be proud of, one should be Flight Sergeant Fred Berry, who saved my life by blowing me onto dry land in my 'chute. Killed before I got out of Hospital to thank him. But we've just, this year, established contact with his relatives. Nice.

As a bit of colour - herewith one of the hundreds of unfired .303 rounds that they dug up!
