I'd kill for a greenhouse ::) and today I've been offered one, free. It's aluminium-framed, glass panelled and very wide. The previous owner was wheelchair-bound and it was wide enough for her to enter in her chair and manoevre.

The snag is that I've got to find a couple of  likely lads to dismantle it, transport it and erect it. Apart from a monetary incentive, what else can I, a penshner widder woman,  use as an enticement and make this an offer they just can't refuse???? :D 'Lishka

Yeah, beetroot tops sound really koool - or maybe they would like some salvia tops  ;) real pretty flowers they could take home to their old mums ....

And anyway, when I read "salvia" I only thought of the latin word for sage (which flowers in June) and wondered why I'd want to be offering some leaves with no top on :o...then I remembered the salvias, much beloved of municipal gardens...so you reckon I should go and raid the park?? And when I get hauled in by the local constabularly (and aren't policemen geting younger evey year, bless 'em?) I should then bribe them with sage-and-apple-jelly...or something, to both free me AND erect my greenhouse??

May sound odd - but have you tried contacting your local probation service if you have one - doing nice gardeny things for people who need a bit of help is a classic use of community service sentences.  The community service boys and their supervisor did the gardens for a local church - and a very nice job they did too!  Alternatively, most big towns have community volunteer groups who like to do things for penshener widder women - just remember to make lots of tea

Remember some years back that there was a Youth Offenders Scheme -can't remember what it was called now - where the likely lads were press-ganged into "community work" and sorted out Old Mrs ****'s garden for her. It was mid-winter and there was snow...one lad, really poorly and inadequately dressed, with not even a jacket or fleece against the bitter weather, was being given a right talking-to by the Press Gang Chief for arriving late...he'd had to travel about 15 miles and public transport had come to a halt. Pompous Prat was hectoring and lecturing him about "Using His Initiative" and asking why he hadn't hitched a lift??? So I told PP that, in these days, our local police advise against offering lift to hitchhikers and, besides, the roads were so treacherous I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to pull off the tracks in the road to stop(and privately thought that many people wouldn't want to offer a lift to such a dubious-looking character anyway, poor sod).. andthen told him that I was going to take young lad off to my house & give him some breakfast & kit him out in my son's spares and did he want to make an issue of it - cos I did! - and what was the name and phone number of his Controller, please?? >:( :P   Wonder what happened to that lad? Probably banged up for mugging a penshner whose greenhouse he'd offered to erect.. ?? :-/

But yes, there are helping agencies and you've put me on the right track for thinking about them..I was driving to work this morning when I saw someone who might know people...made an emergency stop & chatted to him. He's going to inspect the freebie & see if it can be dismantled & transported, first...hedged my bets, tho and told him that even if he didn't think the greenhouse could be moved, could he please bring me the cold-frame that's adjacent? It will add to the 2 I've already got..cheers, Lishka

The drip? - I'm no expert. I've seen it done, and what it does to you . Someone mentioned it the other day - can't remember where. You stuff it with brown sugar etc and let nature take its course? - Tim
