Heritage seeds
« on: October 21, 2005, 11:13:11 »
I have amounts of the following Franchi seeds spare

Tomato
San Marzano Redorta (probably the largest plum tomato going )
Cuor di Bu
Montecarlo F1 (large beefsteak )
Principe Borghese ( THE sundrying tom )
Costoluto Fiorentino
Raddicchio - Rossa di Treviso
Chard - Bionda di Lione
Celeriac - Bianco del Veneto
Cardoon - Gobbo di Nizza
Wild Rocket
Endive - Verde a Cuore Pieno
Globe Artichoke - Violetta Precoce
The amount sent will depend on how many people want to try them, but there will be enough for a season.

Sampler amounts from seedfest
Lettuce - Buttercrunch, Iceberg
Cabbage - Red Acre, Copenhagen Market, Michihilli, Early Round Dutch
Collard - Georgia Southern
Endive - Broadleaf Batavian
Chicory - Rossa di Verona Tardiva
Turnip - Purple top White Globe
Radish - White Icicle
Spinach - BloomsdaleFrench Bean - Contender
Tom - Red Oxheart, Roma
Cucumber - Armenian White Metki, Straight 8, Marketmore 76, SMR 58, Poinsett 76
Gherkin - National Pickling
Melon - Orange Honeydew, Honeydew Green, Yellow Canary
Watermelon - Black Diamond, Orange Flesh Tendersweet
Capsicum - Hot & Spicy

These will be sample amounts only but probably enough to bother trying.

Anasazi beans - grown by the Anasazi cave dwellers 1300 years ago and discovered in the 1900s by archaeologists. For information - http://www.marjonspecialtyfoods.com/show_now.htm
I have 1lb which should be enough to introduce this to a number of you in small amounts for seed saving. This bean deserves growing.

Manteca dwarf French bean - Chilean heirloom suited to drying
Cherokee Trail of Tears (climber)- Named for the 'death march' in the 1830's, purple pods, good drying bean
Runner Bean Desiree - dried white beans are indistinguishable from butter beans

If any of the other varieties listed here http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/yabbse/index.php/topic,13989.0.html are of particular interest, ask, I may be able to spare some.

I'm not particularly looking for swops but if you have aything uncommon particularly flowers ( wild or natural is good) I'd be interested. Otherwise I'm happy just to send them anyway.

Stupidly high germination rate too. I must have thrown away about 200 seedlings without any noticeable difference in the amount of seed left.

PM me your address Baffy and I'll send you some National Pickling gherkin seed. Start them off indoors like cukes but they'll produce well outdoors then. I only planted two and the first picking filled a chip shop pickled onion jar. Very productive.

Could I have the other gherkin seed please? ;)

I've got field forget-me-nots or how about some blue or amethyst fescue to offer in return?

I've got two packs of 8 National Pickling seeds and a pack of Boston pickling still. I'll also have millions of Boston pickling from my existing plants. PM me which you prefer ( or even some of each ) with your address.

I would very much like a few field forget me nots and also some amethyst fescue please. Feel free to add to your wish list as I've got lots to get rid of.

San Marzano Redorta ready to go Vez. Just pm me your address.

Hi DJ,

I'd love to try the Anasazi beans, the collard and the capsicum if you've spare still. I can swap you cheyenne chilli if you'd like. That's about the most unusual veg I have :)

Hi, DJ.  If you have any left could you let me have a few of the San
Marzano Redorta and celeriac please.  Nothing unusual in my garden, I'm afraid, but could send you a packet of 'Wildlife (bird) Attracting Mixture'.

DJ - would love redorta (or any other plum tom.), Anasazi and/or Desiree if still available.  No really unusual plants I'm afraid - have some green calendula, helipterum pierrot, eccremocarpus and mignotte spare if any good?

DJ hi there,

Would you have an anasazi bean left?  And maybe a gherkin or something to pickle?  Or even a Jaleno chilli?

Would you like plants instead of seeds for your new bog garden?

I have been splitting out my Schizostylis coccinea (Kaffir Lilly).  Also have some pretty drum stick primulas, can't find the label at the moment but will go look in the daylight!

Ellkebe - I'll have more San Marzano Redorta in a couple of weeks once I've saved some more seed, by which time the anasazi should be with me too. I'll send some along with Desiree as soon as possible. The eccremocarpus looks really nice if you can arrange any.

Flowerlady - anasazi will be fine ( I've actually got 2lb on order which should be enough to supply the whole forum ) and I can always find gherkins and Jalapenos for someone with kaffir lillies and drum stick primulas.

If you'd both like to pm me your addresses, I'll send as soon as the anasazi arrive.
