Greenhouse Thermostat
« on: October 20, 2005, 15:02:14 »
It is getting near that time of year when I will want to apply some heat to the main greenhouse. Last year I used an electric greenhouse fan heater and I was generally pleased with the result.

However the built thermostat was a bit hit and miss and I was thinking there must be some sort of plug in thermostat I can add at the power point in the greenhouse. A bit of googling has not thrown up much unless I am wiling to spend £50plus.

Any ideas? Could I some how wire up a standard central heating thermostat given that it is a damp environment?

No Tim...and I know what you are referring to.  :(

But I am reasonably competant and seeing as it is the greenhouse and the supply is protected by 2 RCD breakers wiring up a thermostat should not be too much of a problem!

Do you mean the domestic types for central heating? I'm assuming its a 3kw heater so no you couldn't. Contact rating on these stats are around 3-4 Amps. 3kw you would be looking at 13Amps. There is a way you can do it, by the stat controlling a 20 Amp contactor then feeding the heater from this. Hey it makes a change knowing what i'm on about on here.
