Has anyone considered why some tomato varieties remain popular?,where as other ones never/seldom appear in garden centres.?

And I exclude `Heritage` varieties because those of us who have tasted them get them elsewhere.

These are prices this year

Gardener`s Delight(well it`s a good one)-800 seeds-£3.10

Moneymaker(umm my views on that one are well known) 375 seeds-£2.25

Alicante-not in my top 50-400 seeds-£2.25

Ailsa Craig-well it`s better than Money Maker at least-400 seeds-£2.25

Dombito-a beef I rate fairly highly-500 seeds-£47.60

Sungold-well worth it-100 seeds £9.15

Santa-superb in it`s class-500 seeds £70

No wonder I despair when I folk say I am a penny or two more expensive than garden centres-and often I am cheaper is it happens.

Rant over ;)

Hi Cleo - hope you feel better.  I don't know anyone that can use 500 tomato seedlings so why so many in a packet unless they're to share between friends.

I grew Black Prince and Purple Calabash this year, oudoors, and both succumbed to blight.   Woudl you like to recommend some which have good flavour and behave themselves?
