Same applies to me too - first show etc, and never done a show anywhere else either. I will have to look later when I have time. Mind you, I have nothing to exhibit now, unless their is a section for weeds ... ha ha ha

Thank you Multiveg for getting show on the road.
It took me a while to find it, not realizing it took place under the 2004 show. Lots of nice pictures already.

Great pics there Ina. Your veg always looks so fresh and crisp!

Come on people, the ball is rolling and it isn't just veg, but flowers, fruit, and jams etc.  Lets see some lovely lovely home grown/made produce!

Thank you Ina. Dunno about voting this year (will be a toughie), but come on folks, lets have a few show offs - show us what lovely vegetables, flowers, herbs, you can grow and jams etc you can make. Show us the gardening related things you can be proud of.  ;D

Actually, I wonder if voting is really necessary. Just showing is fine with me, I feel that we are all winners.

Perhaps we should have 4 votes - veggie grower of the year, flower grower of the year, fruit grower of the year, and kitchen wizard/wizardess of the year (jams, chutneys..)

Just a word of warning to all potential winners!!  These were the winners in the Carrot section last year

and this is how they now go around - too big for their boots I reckon!!

Hehehe  Wicker! ;D

I too love looking at what everyone else it growing, it gives you ideas for next year, after all the seed catalogues will be appearing soon! ;D 8)

I am presuming it is OK to put more than one item in each catergory? ie: Pic of butternut, and then a turks turban etc. so long as they are a different variety? She asks having had a posting frenzy yesterday! :-[

Like ina said, might be nice not to have voting - just showing what delights we can grow and make. Actually, how about the vote for the funniest veg! Perhaps go overboard and have veggie art - seeing those carrots that are too big for their boots,... just for fun.

Ha ha ha, isnt life just like this eh. I know I would have won the prize for the biggest crop of onions ... but have just deleted the pictures ! ! !

Still, I will have to see if there is anything left for me to grab a picture ...

I do like the idea to have the show for a certain amount of time.
An opening day and a closing day, in between we all get to show our stuff under the different catagories.

We should ask Dan for a seperate board for the show next time, just like we did for the 2004 show. Open it a certain date and close it after two weeks or whatever.
This way anyone, also one time visitors, can visit it throughout the year and look at all the goodies we grew, like going to a museum hehehe.

At our lottie complex we have an exhibition once a year (it was two weeks ago) for a weekend. It's in the papers and many outsiders come to look. it is not a contest, just a chance to show off your stuff and most allotmenteers do take part.

An after thought:
Shall we mail Dan to see if he has time to move all entries for 2005 to a seperate board with the openening posting that stays on top?
What will we call it,? "2005 exhibition"?
It seems a bit confusing now, also with the 2004 show opening post on top.

Next time, shouldn't we have less catagories, like only one thread 'tomatoes' for all sorts of tomatoes and one for all sorts of onions etc.?

May be we need to re start as there are loads of ideas that would make this a better exercise.

Seperate new board would be best and an opening sticky post laying out the rules/instructions with close date for posting.

Voting will have to be done in stages if we aim to do a true competition. There may well have to be semi finals if the votes are shared equally in any class.

Speaking of classes I would think we need some streamling to prevent 1001 different threads. The flowers spring to mind here I think. I would maybe stick to individual classes for classic allotment flowers such as Sweetpea, Dahlia, Sweet William, Sun Flowers, Pinks, etc but have an open class for other cut flowers???

Thoughts?
