This is a nice quiet spot away from it all, at least until February when we cut down the grass stalks!
The entrance.
Almost there!
This is it.

I was in this last weekend and it is truly brilliant. The grass is high enough for you to see nothing but plants, and the location isolated enough to have no road noise and no distractions. It should be claustrophobic but it made me feel like I could breathe freely. The real genius of it is the sheer contrast with other areas of the garden that look onto framed vistas and open avenues.

Eric, that looks wonderful, just what we need in our garden! I think everyone needs somewhere to escape the pressures of life and that looks just the place for me.
Would the grasses grow that tall in their first year, and which ones are they?

My husband and I feel under siege from our neighbours and don't venture into the garden very much, preferring to relax on our patio. We can still hear them though and were thinking of making a hidey hole on a piece of ground which has been under cover for nearly six years while we "get round to it". We though if we screened it with trellis and climbing plants it might be a bit of a noise baffle.
We want to be able to sit in our garden without being overlooked. We do have a fence but our neighbours have built a raised dais and the kids now have a trampoline so ..... I wouldn't mind but their language consists seemingly of only two words - thingy and head! :(
Eric's grassy nook looks just the thing. I'd feel quite intrepid trekking into its interior :)

Grasses are very good for this. We have a bench over in the far corner of the garden where we've created a path of chipped bark through some shrubs and young trees. The garden side of this path is edgesd with grasses and when they grow to full height by mid summer, anyone sitting on it is completely invisible from the house.

That is wonderful Eric. I can imagine how peaceful and lovely it must be to sit amongst all that greenery enjoying the quiet. Thanks for showing it to us. :) busy_lizzie

Ooh, I want to sit there and read my book, with a nice cuppa at my side - chilled wine in the heat of course :)

I have to confess that the bench was only fitted on the day the picture appeared here, so we have not sat in there that much, yet. The paint was still wet anyway! :D
Behind the Gazebo the greenery is mostly Pampas grass, of various forms. The tallest grass is Miscanthus sacc (cannot remember the rest but is means with leaves like Sugar cane). This is the one they are hoping to use as fuel for power stations. It will grow from nothing in February to 12 feet in one season. It is not evergreen though.
Anyone passing is most welcome to rest there, but you should bring your own wine and wine chiller. We would provide tea or coffee though ;D
Eric.

I went to Alnwick Castle a few weeks ago and they have a grass labyrinth. It's quite new so the plants haven't reached their full height yet but it's going to be quite stunning when they have. They seem to have planted the grasses in upside down turves which have been stacked up to about three foot and the grasses have been planted on top.
