Good days picking
« on: August 27, 2005, 15:13:00 »

Collection of toms from the plot. Tigerella, Costfi, Roma, Marlinos Roma, Banana Cream, Picardy, Black Ethiopian, Golden Queen, Moneymaker, Galina.

Plum jam, plum chutney, plum crumble, plum bake, plum cake.....hmmm....the site secretary has an orchard in her garden and told me today to help myself (and that is why I am nursing indigestion from scoffing 3 unripe pears!)

Seemed a shame to leave these all alone on the plot

Honestly, a marrow should be bigger than a courgette!

Golden Zucchini.  I promise this will be the last courgette picking....the rest can turn into monsters for storing.

4 lemon cucmbers -great cropper and still smothered in babies!  Thanks Kitty! Then tasty king are the long green monsters.

These could be charlotte or Aran Pilot.....my vague labeling!

Test dig of the parsnip - very pleased with the progress. Carrots come as and when I need a couple....luck rather than planned successional sowing.

2 apples as one!Siamese twins, or a bottom as number one daughter pointed out.

Black ethiopian plum toms.

Beans - pongo french, dwarf yellow wax french, the last purple queen french and a few runners

Apples galore! All different!!  Bramleys to come in a couple of weeks.

Pushing us to the limit again!

Here's to keep you at it. Celery nowhere near ready, but got to show it before the slugs get it!

EJ that is some harvest! :o :D The plums look fantastic :)

Tim, that's what my celery looks like, but inside it's gone dry, think the drought got to them and I didn't water enough, will try again next year hopefully with a little more success. Tastes a lot more peppery than the shop bought celery though and is okay for cooking. :)

An absolute delight to see Emma.  Fabulous plums! It is our third season with our Victoria plum tree.  We had three the first year, none last year and this year we have at least 35 on the tree and they are so yummy.  I am looking forward to the day we have as many as your picture.  Everything else looks wonderful.  Must remember these picture when it is cold and snowy outside and the lottie soil is hard.  It is a great time of year.   :) busy_lizzie

Plums? A bit envious - we just cut our Victoria down this year. Solid with brown rot, after 40 years fullsomeness.

Tim, is that golden beetroot? How does the flavour compare with the purple varieties?

Tim, please, edge in with pleasure!  ;D

Roy, all of those toms were from the allotment so all outdoors. Yellow ones were Golden Queen, Banana Cream and Galina. I don't think any of the others were yellow. They ripen quicker it seems to me, and I think they are sweeter!

The Roma have been used in the richest most tomato-ist chilli I think I have ever made! A definate must for the pot!
