Stowe Landscape Gardens
« on: August 29, 2005, 17:13:04 »
Went to Stowe Gardens in Buckinghamshire today. Is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Quite unlike the usual "gardens" - amazing landscaping and view points. Capability Brown was the head gardener there.

Amazing what a tree can live through - it was heaving with berries!

This is "Stowe School" - very exclusive boarding school. Richard Branson went here, so he did not make ALL of his money himself I am sure, had a pretty good start to life! Would not fancy mowing that grass!

If you like Stowe then head out to Waddesdon Manor, near Aylesbury.
it has the most gorgeous gardens there.
NT again, and pricey to get into unless you don't want the house.

The photo of the tree looks amazing.

I went to Blenheim Palace for the Festival of Flight a couple of weeks ago but really want to go back to see the trees, there were some amazing specimens that look as though the whole of the inside of the trunk had dissappeared but they still had leaves.  I want to go and have a better look sometime.  I think it too was a Capability Brown garden.
