Wardy, I'm older than you and also like Janis, Billie and Nina (Four Women and Cherish are special). Being in at the beginning of rock n roll anything (before 1963)by Elvis and too many others to mention (23rd member of Johnnie Mathis British Fan Club!)

Anything by David Wilcox. Solomon Burke, Percy Sledge, Sam Cook -the list is endless............... but a few that I find I go back to are

Unchained Melody by Al Hibbler  (have 11 diff artists but NOT
                                                    Robson & whatsisname or Gareth)
It's What You Do - by Dick Gaughan
On and On - by Stephen Bishop
For the First Time - by Rod Stewart
Everything I Own - by Ken Bishop
One Thing - by Runrig
Hope that I Don't Fall in Love - by Juliet Turner + Brian Kennedy
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

Impossible to answer as there are different favourites for different moods..... however..... of the top of my head....

Ella fitzgerald- The music goes round and round
Eric Clapton- Wonderful Tonite
Dolly Parton - Jolene
REM - Everybody hurts
Elvis Presley - caught in a trap.

BUT.... I am a huge fan of Kerrang, so

Good Charlotte - lifestyles of the rich and the famous
franz ferdinand- take me out
the LA's - there she goes
tenacious D - anything!
System of a down - chop suey

Hi I'm back from my two day holiday  :)  I'm an old woman, nearly 50. but I LOVE Stone Roses, Resurrection.  it must be one of my all time favourite records.  I love everything about it  :)

Have to agree whole heartdedly - Mani's bass in that track is ausome and the whole (full length) track fits together that it must be a classic - well done Wardy for reminding me of one track that is truly in my my top five - well sometimes at least.  :)

PS - Dr Strangely Strange - Dr Dim & Dr Strange - bizarre and classis too.

Stone Roses' 'Resurrection'? - more of a 'Fool's Gold' man myself, and 'Sally Cinnamon'...

Green Day also very popular round here. The 4 year old loves 'em!

Reggae is my #1 love, though, especially Gregory Isaacs,  the Mighty Diamonds & Burning Spear...

5 - Joni Mitchell, Woodstock
4 - Jimi Hendrix, 1983 (a merman I should long to be)
3 - Cat Stevens, King of the trees, the boy with the moon and stars on his head, the wind...
2 - Pink Floyd, Echoes, Shine on you crazy diamond, Breath, Comfortably numb
1 - The Grateful Dead, Dark Star, Sugar Magnolia, China Cat Sunflower/I know you rider

Oh and Bjork's Vespertine - the whole album

And to add to those:

5. Circle Game
4. Castles made of sand and If six were nine

2. Wish you were here, Atom Heart Mother and Fat olf Sun

Plus also Santana's Caravanserai album, especially Song of the wind and Ravi Shanka's Reflection.

I really do love a lot of music!

Redclanger - good choice! It's good to find another Dead Head. Most people just look at me blankly when I mention the GD or think they are a heavy metal band (I mean really, do I look as if I like heavy metal?) And PF too - Mr Aqui and I were discussing which was our favourite PF album - I could only get it down to Atom Heart Mother (possibly actually just my favourite!), Wish you were here, Piper, Meddle, The Wall and Dark side of the moon.
gone to pot :D

My son has been into Pink F for years and he's only 23 now.  We went to the Off the Wall concert held at the castle in town last year.  Fab gig and the eery back drop was great for the light show thingy  :o   For a tribute band they were really good (I'm not a purist as you might guess) but even the hardened Floyd fans loved it.  I though PF were great on live aid as was The Who  :)

Hendrix fan here too.  There will be a talky bit about him on Radio 2 soon.  they are previewing it now so don't miss it  :)

Vera Lynn
Bing Crosby
Gracie Fields.
Seriously I really do like such a different section of music/songs impossible to name my favs. I really love country & western , Tammy Wynette,Conway Twitty,Johnny Cash and anything by Bette Midler, Katy Melua, Barbara Dickson ,Barbara Streisand,Celine Dion, Tina Turner.
Last but by no means least Judy Garland who I was thrilled to be at one of her last contacts in London.

This is a toughie - especially as nowadays I never know song names - just track numbers. Even that is becoming a mystery to me as most of the music I listen to now I have downloaded onto my i-pod (a sentence I never thought I would say, only found out I needed one when I saw they came in pink, didn't even know what it did at the time!!!!)

Like EJ, this changes all the time, depending on mood etc.... At the moment I would say:

5. Green Day - there current single - when September somes, or something like that?!?
4. Feeder - Love Pollution
3. Maroon 5 - she will be loved (think it is called that anyway!)
2 - The Killers - Mr Brightside
1 - Feeder - Find the colour

Wardy - how could I forget. Love Janis Joplin too. Especially Ball and Chain and another one, the name of which currently escapes me. (let's see if Mr Aqui knows...)

Don't try to guess my age by the type of music I like (mostly stuff recorded between 1967 and 1974). I was born after this!

Paul Simon wrote some beautiful songs so he must be in the top 103

I like "still crazy"

"I met my old lover on the street last night,
she seemed so glad to see me I just smiled
and we talked about some old times and drank ourselves some beers
still crazy after all these years"

Aaaaaaaaaaaagh

Hi Adam, Robbie Williams songs wouldn't be in my top 103 either - and what is Will Young doing in the top 5?! ???  Wonderwall would be in my top 103, but not my top 5 ... top 5 songs is so difficult:  I could just about tell you my top 10 bands but to narrow it down more than that ... well, I'll have a go.

Kirsty MacColl - probably Days, but I like all her songs;
Pulp - tempted to go for Mis-shapes, Mistakes, Misfits, but I think I'd choose Dishes (from This is Hardcore);
Beautiful South - love their clever lyrics ... aah, how can I choose?  Either Good as Gold or Don't Marry Her, F*** Me, I think;
U2 - something from War - probably 40 (that dates me!);
Roxy Music - something from Stranded, don't know what - maybe Psalm;
Ultravox - probably Reap The Wild Wind or Hymn;
David Bowie - another "aah how can I choose?" moment ... if I have to pick, Wild Is The Wind;
Japan - Despair - or Gentlemen Take Polaroids - or maybe Ghosts;
Transvision Vamp - Baby I Don't Care.  Or maybe Tell That Girl To Shut Up.  Or maybe Sex Kick
The White Stripes - something from Elephant, but no idea what.

Oops, that's 10, nearly all with alternatives - said I couldn't pin it down to 5.  And I haven't mentioned Catatonia, or The Verve, or The Alarm, or Larry Norman ... this is way too difficult for me ...   :-\

Wow, Japan - that's a blast from the past
Used to have photos of David Sylvian on my books at school!
Also liked Forbidden Colurs - think that was his solo work

The old Oasis stuff would prob make my top 10, though am still sulking as we had tickets for their latest tour and they got lost in the post, so we missed it!  :'(
