Alternatively get a decent strimmer, and keep the half you're not working well cut back. That'll kill the weeds and turn it into a lawn faster than you'd believe. Then it's easily dug in when you want to plant it. But definitely go for the ten poles, even if part of it just ends up as sitting out space for barbecues.
