My Onion Crop
« on: August 03, 2005, 11:19:31 »
Just finishing lifting my summer onions, now drying on pallets. I am more than satisfied, 500 onions total, enough to keep us going until the spring anyway. The picture of the largest ones has a reference one given to me by a friend, to show what an onion should look like ! ! ! That is the one with the greenish string. Apologies for the poor picture quality.

Good news anyway lottie, doesnt look like I will be taking any show awards off you in this years onion section!

Who cares what they look like (though they look good to me! :)), isn't it what they taste like that counts?

They look fab, well done Derek. How do you store yours (onions!)? I put mine in carrot sacks or Hessian ones if available but they don't always last till the next lot are harvested.

They will be stored in the detached garage in racking or bags until needed, just bringing a few at a time into the kitchen.

Yes Mothy, we like our onions !

Thanks  Tim, I feel proud if you are envious !  :D

Lottie is the one to seek advice on onions apparently, as big as footballs so the rumour goes . . .  Well I am happy with the size of me own onions anyway ;D

Don't knock it Derek.  Try out my first year attempt for comparison and feel much better  ;)    Not only a very mixed crop but absolutely useless at making ropes....... the one on the left fell in half today although I think the children had something to do with that.......

So you aim for your friends target and I'll aim for your stunning effort  ;D

I will be pleased if mine look like that Icey.  No hope of matching Derek's fine display though.
