Cabbage and Brassica Weevils
« on: August 01, 2005, 11:30:44 »
Good morning,

I have come to your excellent forum via a search for "weevils", the variety that decimate brassicas and I found quite a few related posts here.
I am a regular on another Forum and we are trying to gather information about these pests that will help us to protect our crops from these pests and get rid of them when we are infested with them.

We are trying to find out:

When the main infestations occur
How long the infestations last
The locations where they occur
Any special features (i.e. proximity to OSR, other crops, woods etc)
What protection works (mesh does not seem to protect)
What sprays work and how/when to administer
Any other information that could help us to combat this growing problem.

Sorry if this all sound very formal but I have not had time to get to grips with the site niceties, protocols etc as I myself have a severe infestation that started last week.

Kind regards and thank you in advance for any help you can give us

X Maureen

Live & learn - until today I'd never heard of them. Only 'cabbage root fly'

Please - we have enough pests without those!!

Hi Tim,

Someone under the name of Tim posted a thread on this forum 12th August 2004 under the heading of "Cabbage Weevil?" and the photo on that shows the weevil we are talking about.

Regards,
Maureen

What forum have you come from and how does it compare?

Cabbage Weeveil

Ifestation starts from March
Continues until ladybird populations build up - June this year but a bit late.
Lincoln (City)
No other crops close by (new lottier)
Tried Fatty Acid spray, potato haulm spray, ivy leaf spray - none seemd to work long term - had to wait for ladybirds
Lotty @ Lincoln (Lat:53.24, Long:-0.52, HASL:30m)
