Tomato called 'FireHeart' ??
« on: July 21, 2005, 23:19:15 »
Hi all, I'm a newbie here on A4A and looking for help (my partner reckons I need A lot...)

A couple of months ago I bought 2 tomato plants (outdoor variety) from a market stall.  I remember the stall holder saying they were a German variety and I'm sure he called them FireHeart.  I've searched everywhere and cannot find a tomato with that name.  Does it exist?  If so, I'm wondering about the size of fruit and taste.  If it doesn't exist,  I'm going to be left guessing forever what they are.
They cost me 50pence for the both and are growing very well /forming fruit so I can't really complain .... but I'd still like to know what I'm growing!!

Any advice gratefully received and appreciated.

There are German varieties called:
Fireworks, also one called Reinharde.
These sound a bit like Fireheart, which I haven't heard of.

another german variety, that sounds even more like fire hearts
is "harzfeuer" roughly pronounced the same, just the syllables
inverted.
i have been growing it in my garden for the last few years
(in germany) . an early and heavy cropper, but still of good flavour.

Herz (heart)feuer (fire) is the name. Herzfeuer is a variety I've grown for the past three years. Seeds were bought at Lidl! It's a very good cropper and similar in size and taste to Alicante.

just to make it a bit more confusing:
" Harzfeuer", is its proper german name, from "Harz" a mountain range between west and east-germany. "harz" meaning "resin" not "heart".
