Where? What? When?
« on: July 20, 2005, 15:41:49 »
Is the Sunflower competition over yet? Have I missed all the pics of your entries? Or are you just hiding them from me?
I'm going to declare my interest shortly - just as soon as my offspring returns from abroad with the camera... and then shows me how to get the pics on to the site.

Don't think anyone has declared theirs yet Amazin, so you haven't missed it!   My sole slug survivor is now flowering, but not very tall compared to last years,  :'(  :'(  I keep forgetting to take the camera and the tape measure up to catch it! Will try to do it in the next day or so.   DP

After a promising start, the slugs ate all bar 3!  2 in the garden now, buds coming but they are only about 4 foot tall, and one on the plot has just finished flowering but only just made it to 5 foot.  Bah and humbug!  Must try harder next year!  :'(

Very surprised to report that I've got 8 enormously tall sunflowers, over 7' I should think. Only problem is, that as far as I can see, there aren't any flowers up there yet  :(

My sunflowers are in full flower but not all that tall I'm afraidĀ  :-\ and the one and only surviving giant sunflower insists on facing north all day looking over the neighbours fence, it has an attitude problem it does >:(

Have you seen that ad in the magazine, think it's advertising a honda lawnmower, well I think my neighbour must be using a honda lawnmower, I'm not impressed  >:( ;D  Next year, I'm planting it smack bang in the middle of the lawn, that we whatever way it faces I'll get to see it  :)

Oh good, I'm not the only one with shy sunflowers then! My tallest is facing the wall and steadfastly refuses to turn round!

Anyone for a Shadeflower competition?

one of my sunflowers must be getting on for 7ft - but not in flower yet. Is there a deadline on the comp, am I meant to have declared an interest before now?!

DP  my own fault for sending the Elephant round last year i suppose."YOU reaps what you sows" so the saying goes.Mine got to 6  1/2 foot tall and i got up to find the stems had been shredded in half and the ginormous flower heads in ribbons on the floor. :'(I found out it was those pesky squirrels again .Wheres my rifle ..................could be roast squirrel 4 T.

Our one tall sunflower is about 7ft tall and had produced a dinnerplate size face with one row of tiny petals round it.  The winds yesterday shredded the petals and now the head is drooping badly and turning to seed already.  Think it must be bred for seed but not sure as it was a cast off seedling from g'daughter's nursery class.

Our others are dwarf ones about 2 ft high and only just showing signs of budding.

No need to send the effalump round then, BB  ;)

For me, and last year was my first serious year at growing sunflowers, start them off indoors either on a window cill or in a shed or green house or somewhere during late March or early April and put them out in the ground after the last frosts...feed once a week/ten days/two weeks with a bit of tomato feed and stand back and admire....

good luck
