Topic: condensation

Me again...as this greenhouse has no vents or anything do I have to open the door every day a bit to let the condensation out? If i do then that is mighty inconvenient as I would have to go every night to shut it again.

Will the condensation make the plants go soggy or mouldy? I only have one poor lonely chilli plant in there at the moment.

Can any body recommend and idiots guide to greenhouse basics as i just can't find one that is for complete beginners.

Buy an auto roof vent from B & Q -£22, had mine a week and it works well.

Me again, sorry forgot, you havn`t got a Roof opening window, I can only suggest you buy this first and then fit Aut Vent.At the same store B & Q you could also buy, a Louve window to fit on your back wall. This will overcome your problem.

My lotty neighbour had to make his own door for his incomplete greenhouse.  He made himself a door from timber and made the top half of it louvre with just wooden slats. He has been leaving the slats open most of the summer

One answer is - unless you're growing Emma-type fruit, leave the door open. Most things will grow outside, so they will be that much better with shelter.

Better than mould etc?

I tried leaving the greenhouse door open..just the once

The fox came in and took a stroll around, I had seeds coming up in the wrong areas...he was just being nosey I suppose

we were all there once, well plants thrive in high humidty, well most do, especially things like toms. so in a greenhouse you want pretty high humidity levels. this is the water vapour in the air. to get these high you either want to mist the greenhouse slowly for log periods or soak the floor in the GH, the ater then evaorates and as it cant go anywhere, the humidty rises. if the condensation you have is late on in the evening its likly that it is the water in the air condensing as it cools, and unless its really bad then i wouldnt worry about it too much
