What's eating my goosegobs?
« on: July 08, 2005, 08:33:17 »
I usually harvest many of my goosegobs while they are hard & green leaving a few to go soft. This year I left alot more on the bush but going to pick them yesterday there weren't many left. I discovered quite a number of skins still hanging on the bush, the sweet middle obviously having been eaten. What is likely to be the culprit?

My first thought was birds but the fruit was more hollowed out which I would have thought would not happen with a bird pecking. I also would have thought the pecking would be more likely to knock the fruit off. Some of the fuit was right in the middle of the bush. My only other thought was mice??

definatly a mouse !!

keep an eye out for a rosie cheeked mouse carrying a sharp straw and goosegog juice down his front !!

on a serious note the birds are the culprit they do the same thing to my nice round fruit bursting thirst quenching fruitious Red / Black currents, The cure you ask me well i put out signs

"No drinking from the Red currents please"

i see no reason why it shouldnt work for Gooseberrys lol
