Wormy Things
« on: June 21, 2005, 23:24:06 »
This may seem like quite a basic question but I made myself a pond in a pot a while ago which seems to be doing ok. There are noe loads of what I presume are insects swimming about in the water...mosquitoes maybe...but there are also what looks like tiny pinkish worms swimming around too. Please could anybody tell me what they are or if they are harmless or should I fish them out.

Thankyou

Margaret

Hi Jane. They are more than likely bloodworms which are very common in still water that gets warm. They are harmless and if you have any tadpoles in there they will be more than glad to eat them!

I know how midgie/caddis/dragon/etc fly larvae get in the pond, but how do bloodworms get there?  I have some too.
