« on: January 15, 2004, 14:05:38 »

could you please give me your tips on how you keep your feet warm when you are wearing your wellingtons. You ysed to be able to buy things called wellington socks, which were something like a pair of slippers but l have been all around the town shops this morning and cannot get any.

Some hunting, shooting, fishing shops sell those pads that you heat in the microwave and put into your wellies which keep your feet warm for quite some time.  Might be worth a try!

I'm with you Doris, a normal pair of socks with a thick pair of ski socks over the top - seems to do the trick.

When I used to work with horses, in the winter I'd wear about four to six pairs of socks, plus plastic bags, foil and boots. Put on one pair of socks, place foil over toes, then another two/three/four pairs on top, then a plastic bag, then another pair of socks to hold it in place. That is as long as your boots fit over that lot!

Wellies are the worst things for cold feet get leather boots.
Ok in wellies put a thick pair of socks ( clean ) on dirty dont hold heat.
Put a tesco plastic bag over socks tie them around the ankles and in to wellies.
Otherwise when feet get cold run round lottie to warm them up.

I HATE wellies, mostly for the warmth or lack of when wearing them.

For gardening i wear old army style boots, which are warmer and more comfortable. They also have metal toe caps which is handy when using a fork! Or if I drop something thats heavy, near my feet and miss!!Lol

I hate wellies - cold wet feet

My ex-hubby was into military type things and I once tried a pair of jungle boots. I wouldn't wear anything else out of choice, except that field mice have nested in mine and they're not very easy to buy.

As to those welly liners, I know they're not the same thing but these might be worth a try?

I agree with Stephan - in a way - have breakfast first and you'll never have cold feet.
Equally, I agree with metal toes - if you're that stupid! As I've said before, I've twice pinned my foot to the ground with the fork at the end of a day's digging.

Ever thought about wooden shoes? Always warm feet. In the old days, farmers would put some hay in them for extra warmth. Easy shoes to slip in and out of too. -ina

Ina, when I was a weird teenager, (some 15 odd years ago I imagine) my nan went to Amsterdam to see the tulips and bought me back a pair of wooden clogs in my shoe size, and do you know, they were the most comfortable shoes ever!  I wore them until they were litterally worn out and too tight for my growing feet!  When I tell people they laugh and think I am mad, but once I was used to them, no probs!  Slippery on wet roads tho!  :o

Em, there are actually some good clog makers in the UK too!  And, they have modernised a little by putting thing rubber sole on, so not quite so slippy.  If anyone feels like going down that road, might be worth googling!

They are extremely comfortable, once you get used to them!  ;D

I wear Fur lined Rigger boots - can't bear wellies - you can get them for about £20 from Arco etc.  Safety toes as well.  Have you tried slipper socks - they're pretty thick.
