;D never heard them called Trugs before, is your spell checker still not working ;D should it be trough? ;D I used to see a retired school teacher regularly visit her local shop with a small basket on her arm, it was like a flash back in time :)

Definitely trugs. I was bought one by then boyfriend (now hubbie) a few years back when I first got my lottie and he knew I couldn't afford one myself. Wonderful piece of work. I keep all the hand tools in it,  it's a general carry-all and balances beautifully on an arm.  Worth the expense for the usefulness and the durability.

Etymology of word: originally 'trog' which was a wooden boat-shaped vessel.

;D Very interesting ;D Although I can't see me with one on my arm :-[ Many years ago I was in a cellar doing a survey, it was dark and dingy and was packed with baskets of all shapes and sizes, there were picnic hampers bakers baskets (remember those?) creels, hand baskets oval , round and square.

If the owner had been there I bet they would have wanted rid of them :'( unfortunately they weren't so they stayed :'(

Erm.....nobody likes a smart a**e, but it IS "TRUG"
Think its from the Kent/Sussex area originally, there used to be a place not far from Hayward Heath where they made them. Gorgeous things!! Bought one for my Ma years ago and wish I still had it :(
