grow-your-own onion sets?
« on: June 21, 2005, 13:44:28 »
I started my onions in plastic seed cells (40 to a tray), and when I planted them out I found I had a whole tray of 40 germinated seedlings left over.

I left them out in the open and the birds (or something) nipped the tops off, but since then they have grown on a bit more, and it would seem that I now have some small but recognisable onions in the cells.

Question is this:
do I (a) find a space in the greenhouse and grow them in there as late onions, or (b) allow them to dry out and treat them as onion sets and plant them out in autumn?
"Given that these are probably the most powerful secateurs in the world, and could snip your growing tip clean off, tell me, plant, do you feel lucky?"
