They say the stainless steel is lighter?
Couple of chaps down lottie have the SS spades thought they were just saving time in cleaning but this may be the reason.
Me I still have mums fork use it for garden and lottie and it gets locked in the boot of my car I am so afraid of lossing it.

Tim I bought a dutch hoe yesterday from Homebase and it looks like the same brand as the link Teresa has posted above. If it's not the same brand then it looks very similar. Can't check because its in my car and it's pouring outside. But, I picked up the garden fork on display and it was fairly light (for me anyway) compared to the fork I'm using at the moment. I can't remember the price of the fork at Homebase but I think it was around £20 or £23. I bought the hoe because it was so comfortable to hold, unlike the other ones on display with plastic handles.

Oh Tim Xmas is comming tell all family you want money to buy yourself a fork.
Then watch there faces they will be delighted they will realise you need something useful and not another pair of socks.

Teresa - huge thanks for pointing me toward Joseph Bentley (Decco Ltd). In the event, I went for the newly launched 'Gardener's Apprentice' fork. Light? Just over 800gm. As you would expect, shorter than a 'grown-up' one, but suits my wife to a tee since she has lost several inches through age.

Arrived today - £20 inc p&p. A truly beautiful piece of craftsmanship. A collector's piece! Nothing like the usual fading, brittle plastic coated nonsense on the right. It is certainly high recommendation for all the other tools they have on the web. And there's a Potato Fork due out next year. Can't wait! = Tim

Oh Tim its lovely and the price is so good.
The internet is a wonderfull place your not restricted to local shops and DIY centers which do charge a lot for mass produce products.

I broke the handle on my border ladies fork, and was very upset! Gave it to my 90 year old friend who has mended it for me, and given me a wooden handle that looks just like yours Tim, have to say it feels a better fork somehow, and am glad now the handle snapped! ;D
