celery leaf miner
« on: June 14, 2005, 08:34:06 »
Hi all,  :D
My celariac plants all seem to have been attacked by the celery leaf miner,
(brown blistering on some leaves) . Do I just remove the infected leaves  ??? or is there any further treatment  ??? They are under fine mesh, so I guess they were attacked before being planted out.

                                             Adrian.

 Hi Svea,  :D
the leaves are not just brown ,they are puffed up (not a great description)  they also may have a maggot inside, these need to be crushed & disposed of ,  :P  . I still am not sure if there are any control methods available.

I have it too, get it every year and have never bothered to do anything about it apart from pick off the affected leaves.   I would be interested to know if there is an organic preventative out there, fleece I presume would work.

at what point do you pick off the leaves, doris? when they are just turning brown/developing brown patches?
i havent been able to check in proper daylight but i think i may have blistered leaves among the patches :( equally, i dont want to pick off too many leaves and weaken the plant.

interestingly, my lovage also has it! (same plant family)

Yes I do mine when they are developing the brown patches, but don't overdo it as you note, or you won't have any plant left! ;D
