PHOTOBUCKET
« on: June 08, 2005, 17:01:10 »
When I went into Photobucket today my Dial Protection program warned me that an attempt was being made to switch my Modem to a Premium number. So if you have not got one of these take great care BE WARNED.
Also each time I access said site it tries to download a tracking program called Avenue.Co Inc which again my firewall will not allow. Take great care. I Emailed them and received the following slightly insulting (to my mind )reply "You may wish to upgrade to the Premium service."
Sucks to them!!!!

Eric, I know you don't agree with me, but "Imageshack" is by far easier/friendier than I found with "photobucket" For a start PB is full of spyware, and too many limitations.

About 6 months ago, I have asked BT to BAN all telephone numbers made from my number which start with 090 etc. ... premium numbers.  I know it works because I have tried dialling myself to no avail.

I hope the same happens if ever PHotobucket want to install their d**n thing, as I use them extensively.
Glyn, what do you mean by their spyware ??
 ???

Avenue.co. are a nasty spyware company, that can be sometimes hard to get out by hiding their tracking files on your puter so you can't find them. Obviously "PhotoBucket" supports this company. >:(

But Imageshack is not free. If you want to download more than one image at a time to it you have to buy Credits.
All you need to do with Photobucket is keep on re-loading it, eventually it gives up trying to send Avenue to you (as long as your Firewall, Spyware etc prog stops it in the first place).
What we need is a site as good as Photobucket and FREE and as easy to use! Anyone know of one?
Off to check out as many as I can find.
Edited to add. I have just been to PB and no Avenue nor anything else, straight in, fast as ever!

I have an account with Yahoo and have the ability to download photos into my account.  I wonder if this is of interest ??  I will have to go and have a look to see how it works.  Will report later.

Ditto that, Roy.

All of the roses pics I have put into the Gallery were from ImageShack but I'm not a member either.

Sam.

Just copied this from their "Common questions"

ImageShack® is a free image hosting solution. It can be used to share pictures with friends, as well as post images on message boards and blogs. It can also be used to direct link images from your personal website or online auction. And best of all, it's completely free.
