Internet on a Go Slow?
« on: January 26, 2004, 18:03:01 »
Is it me or is the 'net on a go slow today. Thought at first it was the beeb when i tried to go in there, but it is just as bad on this (and other sites) as well. >:(

So much for Broadband!  ::)

Mine appears same as usual.

Might be a problem with your broadband supplier.

I usually find the beeb painfully slow. This site seems to slow down in the afternoon (as America wakes up and gets online).

l do not think it is you Richard_F, must be doing it to all the Richards mine appears to be slow also.  Or it could be as aquilegia says and could be the supplier, Iam with NTL by the way do not know if you are the same.

Best of luck and hope it speeds up Richard  :-[

- do so agree - takes SO much longer here - used to be SO quick - is it all the photos that are slowing it up? Perish the thought! = Tim

Nope, mines whipping along  ::) for a change.  And we should be sorting our broadband in the next 48 hours or so, then there will be no stopping us!

hoorah for technology!  Of course, you know it will all go t*ts up and we will be without any internet access for days, but hey, what the hell!  ;D

Ceri,

All the beeb sites are notorious for their lack of speed.  Everyone keeps complaining but nothing changes, have stopped even looking let alone trying to post :-[

b-lizzie - not that silly.  In my corporate days I used to work for Birmingham Cable, then Comcast Teesside - both of whom had the hugest reception dishes.  When the snow was really bad, staff used to go on then with brooms to sweep away the snow as it would knack the cable reception in people's homes.  Modern technology is a wonderful thing - perhaps they should build dishes with internal heating!

When i connected just now for the first time this evening the system was on a REAL go slow. So slow i could not access any sites AT ALL.

I have since logged out and restarted and got on here fine, and at 'normal' speed too.  Havent tried the beeb yet, but not holding breath as it always seems slow these days. have almost given up on it (only use it to post on topics i cannot post on on A4all - like gardening Tv programmes).

Never mind, except for today there is usualy no problem on this site, inspite of all the photos we have posted! ;)

Ps i use AOL broadband, just to answer queries.

- no Broadband on my pension, but it's taking anything up to 3 min between pages. So, an hour, at least, to work through the new stuff. Too much! = Tim

Adds another dimension to playing Penguin Lob though - called the page up.  Went to make a cup of coffee - came back just as penguin launched itself.  From then, it took just over 7 minutes for the penguin to land.

After all that - score of 168.

The crack overnight express in Egypt is faster - average speed 28 mph in my days there!

All best - Gavin
