Grumpy Old Gardeners ?!
« on: January 31, 2004, 16:54:49 »
I'm sitting here wondering why the right to give vent to frustrations if the preserve of grumpy old men (ie on the BBC tele programme).

I still can't get up the lottie because of the weather, so I'm very grumpy indeed .. and nobody here gives a hoot!

So, I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to go to give 'voice' to those annoyances that send us normally kind and level headed gardening folk into a frenzy!

My current blood-pressure-raising moan is due to those drivers who, on a dual carriageway with a 70mph limit INSIST on getting in the outside lane and trundling along at 30-40 miles an hour because they happen to be turning right about 6 miles ahead!  Get in the inside lane for goodness sake!

Any more moans out there or are y'all still at one with the world?

Good idea allotment-chick,

I too would like a moan, why oh why oh why cant we swop the working week for the weekend?  That way i could work sat & sun and spend mon-fri on lottie diggin happily.

But I guess if we did that i would have lots more aches and would need to buy lots more radox, then would moan about that instead - no pleasing some people.  ::)

The drivers who annoy me are the 40 mil-an-hour ers. They drive every where at that speed. 70, 60 30 20 limits don't matter they drive at 40. And I always get stuck behind them or worse in front of them in the 30 limit. Plus the too close brigade. and the.... I could go on
In gardening terms it is the appalling stench of charcoal, paraffin and burning meat which I cannot stand. Ban all Barbecues. And other people's music. I can garden to the sound of birds and bees so why can't they.
And..... miserable old geyser shut up. (me that is not anyone else).

And when I get behind one of those they are usually a member of the 'cloth cap brigade' >:(  Hope you don't wear one Eric. If so, apologies ;)

Moles in the garden. The little devils wait until everything is neat and tidy and then along they come and mess things up.  >:(

Being stuck in the house because of the weather when I could be outdoors bashing mole hills!  :(

BBQs-now there is a topic :). For years I have been the victim of my otherwise most pleasant neighbours and the stink of their barbie.

But now ha ha-I have my own, and without bragging, I am a fair cook-so roll on summer and the smell of good quality meat infused with home grown herbs and served with freshly picked salad. drool.

If I had a grump it would be those who move to the country side and then complain about straw on the roads or wild flowers in the hedgerow(and they do-we don`t want those nasty seeds blowing over the lawn we have just pressure washed).

Stephan.

Lordy!  Barbeques!! Not just the ghastly smell (only the Brits would choose the most expensive method of cooking possible to scorch the cheapest pieces of processed meat they can find....) but the associated noise - have you noticed that some folks ability to hear decreases directly in proportion to the amount of alcohol they drink? Ergo, as the evening wears on (and on....) the volume of the 'banter' increases as the general background noise decreases?!

(PS - Eric, this thread is dedicated to miserable old geezers everywhere!  I vote you join me and carry on moaning...)

Moany peeps r us!!  I agree with MB, don't knock the barbee noise, at least peeps are havin fun AND you have a garden to be annoyed in (I guess that defeats the object of thread title really but wtf).

My biggest moan is that all the people who don't work wait until dinnertime/weekend to do their shopping, and mill around in an "I've got all the time in the world" type manner....

I reckon, ban people who don't work from shopping from 12-2 on a weekday, and during the weekend...

Ha, am potential despot!!!!!

...it all nearly got to much when a barbeuqe appeared up the allotment!   :o   Luckily, haven't thus far been working my plot at the same time as barbeque being used!

And then there is another thing!  Why do people have to park so close to my car?

If I park on the street they are about three inches from my bumper both front and back and it takes me ages going backwards and forwards to get out!  And if I knock their car - who is to blame!?  Not them methinks.....

And then there are those people in car parks!  How do they get out of their car 'cos I can't get in mine they've parked so close!   >:(

Please carrying on moaning y'all - it brightens my day!  Or bring on some drier weather so I can stop moaning and get out to the lottie!

Some of my biggest moans are:-

Dog mess on the pavement, especially near schools.

Old peeps in the supermarket, peeps with young, unruly children in the supermarket and anyone else who gets in my way....

people standing in doorways blocking the thoroughfare.

cold-calling,
Junk mail,
bad manners,
People crossing at pelican crossings before the green-man when you're trying to teach a little one how to do it properly.....

Peeps who get miffy over things too small in the grand scale of things...

Signs in shops etc spelt incorrectly or grammatically incorrect.....

Think that will do for now....

Thanks feel alot better now

Just thought of a really annoying thing  well things really.  Commerce not allowing us to celebrate at the right time.  For them Christmas starts in September, Easter starts in January, the school hols start in May and the kids go back to school in July.  Really gets up my nose. :-[
