   I'm a MIL and do whatever I can for my DIL's and SIL's and would be really hurt if they all thought like this. We aren't all bad and I'm sure you find us useful sometimes!!

I am a Mother in law.to four, I get on famously with the three Sons in law.
But...........The Daughter in Law is from hell ,and its all her making all of it. I have three lovely Grandaughters who I have never been allowed to see. all b/cards etc have been returned. she is truly a woman from hell. and believe me it is only her

I agree.  Nothing is worth falling out over.   I have 3 sons and never put them in the position of having to agree with wife or mother.

Oooh heck....I stirred up a hornets nest here didn't I?!

I actually love my MIL to bits, but was just a bit aggrieved that she'd put the dampers on my plan for OH's birthday treat! Needed an outlet to vent and was rewarded with Jeannine's lovely suggestion for a gift which is truly priceless.

No offence to other MILs out there. I do appreciate mine 99.9% of the time (which is more than I can say for my OH!) ;)

Dont get me wrong my MIL is good sometimes. We do also see her and cook her a 3 course dinner at least every other week, and were over loads to help her when she broke her wrist before xmas.
Hubby has also just fixed her computer which she had wrecked,

I actually see far more of my MIL than I get to see of my own mother as my MIL is closer in distance to me

She does give us the challenge of feeding our kids copious amounts of chocolate which we disagree with (we have requested she doesnt) , and even the boys agree they would prefer a penny for their money box, as they are brought up by both us and preschool with the knowledge that certain things are not healthy for you in large amounts. I have to say preschool hammer this but I dont think its a bad thing.

I have also been told in an hour of need (my car back window smashed in day before holiday) that no she cant help and I should no way phone hubby. I disagreed on this one and thought he would at least like to know that "houston we have a problem"

when she is good she can be very good but when she is bad she is horrid, and whiny and persistent and all woe is me.

thankfully we managed to have a nice candle lit dinner for two in peace tonight, and hubby was well impressed with his wifes abilities at recreating Heston Bluementhal recipies.

Oh and she is coming to dinner on friday and I have made enough of the starter and the dessert so that she can sample some of the menu we had too.

Sometimes us daughter in laws do like a little break from our mother in laws to nurture our relationships with the husbands that they created

I by the way have twin boys and if I ever do my future daughter in laws what my MIL has done to me this week they have full permission to shoot me.  :o this is because I wouldnt want to think I had upset my DIL and felt I had intruded on a momment they had wanted to be special.

Me too...one has passed away but my ex-MIL has dementia and doesn't remember me, well she might if she saw me but not on the phone. Sadly she doesn't remember my sons, her grandsons either.

That's sad, my husbands mother was like that .she rolled her husband and two son's into one person. so sad.

Yes that is sad.

My eldest just turned 40 and we all had a great party.His wife organised it .No poor son being pulled this way and that.

I doubt any bloke appreciates his wife and mother being at loggerheads.Many Men will want to defend their Mum and their wife so imagine being in the middle of that.

In our family Birthdays tend to be a family affair.........I see my lads about once a month on average so don't think I step on anyones toes.
