Anyone growing any big show onions ?
« on: July 13, 2008, 23:16:58 »
Well I'm trying to grow my biggest onion this year but things aren't going too well.

Half have grown double necks and the cold weather and lack of sunshine aren't helping either.

Anyway this is my progress so far.

If anyone else shares my weird obsession then I'd like to see how you're getting on.

What type and how did you get them so big?    Sets or seed?

I would love to grow them that big!

Yes, we have.  Well we think they are big  one and a half pounds each.  They are japanese autumn ones that I got for  £1.00 for about 25 sets from our local market.  Its all excitment as our allot assc. is holding its first veg show this year, the only downer is that only 3 people have asked for an entry form and we are getting worried.  why is it that at meetings they all say can we do this and can we go there, then when you arrange it they are going away, have inlaws down, lost the cat, kids have too much homework.  You know what I mean its an uphill struggle.  Still if there are only three entries we are bound to win something. ???
