Title: Carved pumpkin
Post by: Grandma on October 30, 2011, 16:17:31
I couldn't post a pic of my of my 79lb-er in the competition thread as my daughter had taken it away for carving for Hallowe'en. She sent me this pic today - I think he's going to look great all lit up!

(She did say that it was a really tough old b*gger to carve and, even hollowed out, was heavy to move around and that if I grow a bigger one next year I can do it myself!!! She also mentioned that the seeds weren't very big - so it looks as if I'll be scrounging again next year, please Pete!)

Thanks all! :-*

I look forward to seeing all your photos - especially the ones done by youngsters. I think my daughter's two lads were responsible for the big fella's little friend!

I remember (before the American pumpkin invasion)  carving out a swede for 'All Hallowes eve.  My Dad sharpened the edge of an old spoon, but the fingers and palms of the hands used to get so sore.  :'(  The kids today ! ! ! !

Mam used to say that that was the night the witches went to brush the cobwebs off the moon.   We believed every word !    :o    Cheers,     Tony.

Great carvings everyone.

Grandma. You are welcome to some seeds. I will post something on here when they are dried and ready to be sent out. Should be early in the new year when Christmas is out of the way.

That last sentence makes me sound like a right miserable sod !
 :) :) :) :)

That's a monster in every sense of the word, Steve! Should keep the trick or treaters away!

lisaparkin - a stunning display! I love your pumpkin and carrot baby! :-*

And pumpkinlover - I'm a cat person, too!

Here's my big fella all lit up tonight.

The big ones are brilliant. It was lovely to come home from work and see them in peoples windows on the way.
We light one to encourage Trick or Treaters as the local children come round with their parents and are lucky that there is not any trouble. :D
Got down Mr PKL's kitkat supply ;D
Next year I'll be with the big boys ;D ;D ;D

I had a really big atlantic giant growing and was planning to use it for Halloween. Two weeks ago we went over the lottie to pick it and bring it home and it had rotted on the underneath even tho we had put it on planks of wood, I was so peed off.  So peed off infact that I didn't buy one this year.  Suppose I was being a bit childish really, cos I regret it now seeing everyone else's.

It's not that far off! He's certainly as grim as I am!  ;D

I'll be trying 3D carving again when I get some proper tools (instead of a coping saw blade).

I thought I'd give it a go after seeing Ray Villafane's work (amazing).
