Title: Valentines day present......I am an ungrateful ratbag!
Post by: Deb P on February 13, 2012, 13:56:32
I'm not a great believer in Valentines Day stuff, especially when married for 20+ years, so was surprised this morning when OH shouted up to me that postie had just delivered something and 'you might as well have it now as you will guess what it is before tomorrow anyway'. Going downstairs I see a large package from Rutlands, who sell the most wonderful tools, and start getting excited.........gardening tools, who wouldn't!! I had been looking through their catalogue a few weeks ago and noticed they did some great 'sprakes', a mix between a hoe and a rake, ideal for weeding and clearing, and dropped several hints to OH about them hoping for something from them on my birthday in April.

So, there was me excitedly ripping open the plastic to reveal.........a bow tine rake. Oh. Er, I already have a large rake. OH, reading my face says, 'That's not the right one is it?' ......I am SO rubbish at lying!!! 'No, that's fine darling, my old rake needed replacing......this one is lovely (and it was, nice ash long handle, carbon steel head etc.) OH now has serious hump with me. 'Just leave it, I'll send it back and you can tell me what the right one is later' and stomps off to work. I am in the doghouse big time! I really didn't mean to appear ungrateful and he meant well.....

Happy Valentines Day for tomorrow everyone.......:( :(

At least you got a prezzie Deb.I would let him exchange it for the one you really want, otherwise everytime you look at it you will be reminded of the thingy-up ;D

I am not sure men are very good at hints.  Next time you need to pin up the pic and circle exacting the one you want.

But what is this valentines present business about? ;D

If this is the same husband who built you a shed that is the talk of the world wide web, I would try to backtrack a bit.

As your birthday is in April, could you perhaps suggest that he gets you the sprake then you'd have a matching pair?

Don't know how pricey these things are but returning stuff can be a hassle and expensive with it.

Raking is pretty tedious and can be hard work, a new rake might be better than you might think - I'm using the one that was left by the previous plotholder and it is rubbish.

And wot Digeroo said - both of them  ;D

I get the feeling whatever I suggest as a solution is going to be wrong at the moment.....I've decided to fall back on the well tried formula of cooking him his favourite dinner and take it from there! ;D

And you still haven't mastered the faking the pressie thing yet ::) for at least a few days....until you can come up with a really believable story ::) as to why you would like to change it for something else.
Shame on you :P

^^ On the other hand, hubby should have learned by now that, if in doubt, pick the most expensive thing in the shop.

(just had a look on Rutlands website and the "sprake" is 60 quid!!  :o)

Don't you believe it! It is the hints that are rubbish. How are we suppose to guess what is on a womans mind. Still I've got it right this year., a nice posh new belt and bag. Now she will be able to get on with the hoovering ;)

Well I am speechless! I came home from work this afternoon to find another parcel alongside the rake shaped one from yesterday containing the much lusted after 'sprake' with a note attached which said (Ace will love this) "Dear Valentine, grow your own f***ing flowers! Love xxx " Blimey, now I will really owe him......! ;D

Wow! I'm not a Valentine's type either, but think I'd change my mind if my OH had done that! What's for dinner today, or shouldn't I ask?  ;)

You are so ungrateful, still waiting for my card, had no post today and OH has disappeared, maybe he has gone to the florist or maybe he has gone to the pub.  But then have known him so long it doesn't really matter.  Pleased that it is half term as just hated it when I was at school and I didn't get a card (sob, sob).
