Hi all, I've been reading up on hedgehogs after finding one out in the daytime, turns out they struggle to hibernate and if underweight are forced to feed to try to make it. If you see one out in the daytime in winter then it's in trouble and needs help.

The rule is if it's under 600g then it's not going to make it .
They eat cat food and so if you spo one take it in feed and water and if you have a local hedgehog rescue give them a call.
Here in rural Ireland there is no such thing and so my polytunnel has become hedgehog hotel for a while!

Amazing to see mrs twiggy winkle up close, beautiful!

Well done Sunloving.  No sign of hedgehogs here in this garden but we haven't explored all its nooks and crannies yet.  I have some cat food just in case.

We do know we get foxes and coypu passing through and, of course, Rasta doggy finds their deposits very enticing to roll in.   Stinky!

Wow coypu they would be hard to keep in a box on the shelf! Good luck on your adventures! X sunloving.

They need as much help as they can get, they do better slug control than you or I.

I raked up some leaves from the paths and every day they are scattered.  So I think I have hedgehogs.  They normally go into the compost bin I fill with leaves but there is no sign this year of a hole or foot prints, so not sure where they are nesting. I am next to a nature reserve so the could come quite a way.
They do not seem to totally hibernate and go out foraging on warm nights.  They make quite a mess.
But no sign during the day.
