nearly free fruit cage
« on: August 26, 2016, 15:12:29 »
Built a big framework up this morning for a fruit cage. Loads of re-bar left over from a show garden, nice and sturdy and should last a few years without rotting like wooden posts do. Done the amazon shopping basket trick, loaded it up with all sorts of netting then waited till they offer me a deal. Got the netting half price. Also scounged a load of hessian shopping bags that were being given out free at a festival last week so the onions are stored nicely. My plaiting fell to bits so bags are a better solution.   Can't beat this recycle/freebie system of running an allotment.

For those that are wondering what re-bar is good for in a show garden. Fanned out in tall grasses and bamboos, it gives a bit of structure and the rust/blueing sets off the plant colours
