The Daily Jigsaw Puzzle - Dahlias
« on: November 30, 2015, 11:55:16 »
What with all this horrible weather I thought it was time for a bit of sunshine in the form of flowers.

I have made these jigsaws about half the size of the previous ones I have put up so as a bonus I will give you "Two for the Price of One"

This one has 36 pieces.

I can't get onto the leaders board with either of the last two jigsaws.  They both take me over 2 minutes to complete.  Am I the only one?  I keep trying!    :BangHead:

There is a good reason for that Pauline.....dare I say it....you are not fast enough.

My jigsaws are not all exclusive to A4A members as I have to make some available to 'Jigidi' members and these are a couple that are on both sites.

Here is how the leader boards stand now:

This is the puzzle with the Ferns:

Tinemai           1:17
jntleman           1:17
testing123     1:28
purpleflower27   1:29
jimbo                1:32
Mirabella1000   1:33
crackerjackgal   1:41
jam62499           1:44
Evdokia3           1:44
srmkbwendy   1:49

This is the other:

testing123   1:29
jam62499           1:37
srmkbwendy   1:39
TeresaHartley   1:41
Boandto           1:46
Skarvada           1:52
agata           1:55
syfmp           1:57
Marti0262           1:58
crackerjackgal   1:59

I looked at the leaders boards after I completed the puzzles and was amazed that some people had finished them at the speed of lightening!  I wonder whether internet speeds make a difference.  We are certainly on snail broadband here.  I would be interested to see how long it takes some of the other people on A4A to complete them.

I have managed 2:08 for the first one.  But some of that is a matter of luck.   And since then I have been getting worse again.

Not sure how they manage to achieve 1:17.  Perhaps it is quicker with a touch screen to move the pieces about.    Perhaps you can move two at the same time.   It should not be my internet I have infinity.  Though I have not noticed much improvement since it was installed.  Got a new computer should be better but it is not and I HATE WINDOW 10.

I find there can be a difference between PC & iPad

e.g. I find big puzzles are better on the PC because you can spread the pieces out better and you can zoom in and out, but at a cost.......this extra movement takes time so this adds to the overall time.

Doing the small ones on the iPad with its touch screen I find is more positive, but the pieces can often sit on top of each other so this can slow you down.

Having said that:  I am not really a competitive animal so the time does not matter to me either way!

Fortunately I don't do them to get on the leader board, just for fun!

I tried solving the puzzles on a touch screen, but it was worse.  The bits kept sliding back but they often do that even when I am using a mouse.  Sometimes they stick too and I have to go back and get the piece again.

Like you Digeroo, I have solved Tee Gees puzzles in just over the 2 minutes.  I keep trying to get below 2 but the more I try the worse it gets!   I have put quite a few puzzles of my own on Jigidi over the past few weeks and I am always amazed as to how fast people are able to solve them.  A 108 piece has been solved in 6.25 mins, a 35 piece in 1.14 mins and a 30 piece jigsaw of my dog has been completed in 58 seconds!!  Absolutely incredible!

I am competative and always strive to get on the leader board, especially with the tiny puzzles.  With the much larger ones I find time doesn't matter so much, especially if the subject matter is more difficult.  I just get satisfaction then from getting the jig saw completed. Here is one of my more complicated puzzles, should anyone want to have a go at it.  It has 192 pieces and is a photo of the folded rocks at Hartland Quay, Devon.  Warning....It will take a long while to complete, probably over an hour.

Managed one of yesterdays and on of todays under 2 minutes but that means I am still nowhere near the bottom of the leader board.  No idea how it is possible to do in just over a minute.  Can only assume they do not have windows 10!!!!

Some PCs are faster than others, some internet connections are faster than others, some mouses work faster too.   My wireless mouse is faster than the one with a cable but neither works well using the sofa as a mouse mat.   I expect it's also faster doing them with no distractions form phones, dogs, cats, family wanting attention and so on.

I think the point is to enjoy the jigsaw process and not try and beat the speed record.

Digeroo, I have Windows 10 too and am as impressed with it as you are!

I am convinced now that it is something to do with the internet connections.  Our broadband has a speed of 1.8 so is very slow.  Where we live we are all affected but Openreach have been working on it for about 2 years.  They have put in an additional box at the bottom of the village but they haven't connected it yet.

With the smaller jigsaws ie those that can be solved in about 2 minutes, I do need to add the competitiveness of trying to get onto the leader board.

I have added some more difficult 130 - 165 piece jigsaws to the site for those of you who want something more challenging. They will take longer to solve though.  They are:

The first two I photographed at Eggleston Hall Nursery and Gardens at Barnard Castle.  We are hoping to go back there next year as the gardens were spectacular.  The third picture is of our dog paddling in a stream in Swaledale and the last one is the River Swale at Richmond.

Sorry For not getting the jigsaws up today, the reason is I am having trouble connecting to A4A .

I can get the page but when I use the tabs I can't connect to the various boards.

Add to that I haven't had time to sit down and resolve the problem, but later when the family leave I will look into it
